We at Oreon are really sorry for the major delays on this update. We have ran into some bugs and unfortunately partnership disagreements, leading to the delay. We are going to release the Oreon Lime (R2) September Mainstream Update into the Beta Channel on Friday, September 27, 2024, and to the Mainstream Channel on Monday, September 30, 2024.
Partnership Disagreements
Our original plan was to provide Firefox with the default search engine as Resulti for this update, but sadly it does not quite follow Oreon’s expectations for privacy and security, so we were forced to cancel the plan. We will still update our Firefox package though (without Resulti).
Update Changelog:
- Upgraded Firefox from version 115.7-ESR to 128.x-ESR, leading to fixes with video playback on sites such as YouTube along with other small fixes.
Upgraded Linux Kernel from version 5.14.0-427.35.1 to 6.10.11-1.- EDIT: This cannot be done for this update. We have tried with multiple unsuccessful ISO builds. If you want a newer kernel, please wait until Oreon 10 to release.- Fully supported multimedia out of the box on new installations.
Future Changelog (Shipping With Mainstream Quality Updates)
- Ship Oreon System Manager (OSM)
- Ship eternity as an RPM package in Oreon repos for Oreon 10 and later package building (for our new package manager).
- Potential minor UI changes following Oreon 10.
And more.
Keep note that Oreon Lime (R2) will be reaching end of Mainstream support on April 20, 2025, meaning you will no longer receive feature updates from oreonproject if you choose to continue using this release; however, Oreon Lime (R2) will still continue getting security updates and bug-fixes until May 31, 2032.
